2024 Round Up of Paper Gifts Given and Received
Each year at this time I like to look back on the holidays and show you paper gifts that I chose for others. I'm always pleasantly surprised if I happen to receive papery gifts... this year there were several so I'll include them too, along with a couple of paper decorations discovered here in Delaware.
Just for the record, I showcase many artists and crafters on this site and never expect anything in return... after all, posting their beautiful creations is what generates content (in blog-speak). But every now and then I receive a kind message from someone who has been featured who wants to repay the favor. So nice of them!
Such was the case after I included Meg Jorgensen of FireBenchandBrush in this paper jewelry round up. She messaged me with an offer to choose any item in her shop as thanks... how incredibly generous! While I love the handpainted artisan paper jewelry she creates, I was drawn to this pretty blue chalcedony drusy and aquamarine pendant necklace (granted, not made of paper, but hang on for a sec...) as I had just purchased a top that I knew would go with it perfectly.
And then as I browsed Meg's Etsy shop while readying today's post, I noticed these hand painted paper and wire art doll necklace pendants... each one has such fine details! The bag-toting gals would be perfect for any shopaholic.
Ben Goraj of goraygami in Michigan asked if he could send me one of his golden paper origami ornaments after I featured his shop in this year's paper ornament round up. He said choose whichever one you like... again, how nice is that? You might remember when I featured his magnificent origami Christmas tree topper.
Another origami artist who was featured in the same ornament round up, Dylan Larson of PaperdudeCreations, wrote to say that he'd like to send me one of his Santa hat-wearing origami crane ornaments in whatever color I would like.... truly a thoughtful dude.
I think this cute fellow looks right at home on my little tree that's decorated with ornaments I made in past years. Dylan also folds a beautiful origami nativity set that has received really nice reviews.
It was clearly a year for origami gifts because after featuring Jurate Grossman of Lucky Origami, I placed an order for a pair of earrings for a family member who had admired them after seeing a photo I'd shared on Instagram.
Jurate then surprised me by including a gorgeous paper crane necklace in the earring order! What a kind heart. By the way, she also has an Etsy shop, LuckyOrigamiJewelry.
I've written about Natalie Monday's paper earrings several times and have lost count of the number of pairs I've ordered from Monday Morning Press for myself and as gifts. Her small business has grown by leaps and bounds, as Natalie manages to create frequent paper earring collections in an array of new styles and color palettes.
I ordered this floral pair for my sister in Florida who says they go with practically everything in her closet! Natalie also has an Etsy shop, MondayMorningPressCo that is currently on a little break over the holidays, but it will reopen in January. I can't wait to see what she has in store in 2025! Meanwhile, if you'd like to jump on the leopard trend, you'll find pretty pairs on her website in both the Neutral Staples and Signature Collections.
In my most recent newsletter, I featured this Christmas tree that is located in the dining room of the Nemours Mansion in Wilmington, Delaware. It's beautifully decorated with paper flower ornaments, made by one of the estate's interpreters who used costume jewelry pieces to add sparkle to the centers.
Another surprise find here in Delaware this holiday season was a tabletop tree at Winterthur Museum and Gardens, decorated entirely with quilled ornaments.
Lastly, I can't say enough good things about a Dublin, Ireland company from which I ordered birthday prints. It is called Make It with Words. If memory serves, a random Instagram ad led me to the site.
Since two little ones joined our family in 2024, and because the words
on each of their birthdate prints captures their personalities so well, I
placed a spur of the moment order. They arrived quickly in perfect
condition and were happily received by the parents on Christmas. They are available in blue or pink ombre tones... really attractive.
