6 New and Tantalizing Paper Craft Books
It's back-to-school time and that means new books! I've rounded up a half dozen enticing titles... some are available now and others are well worth looking forward to this autumn.
Out today: Paper Quilling for Beginners: A Complete All-in-One Guide to Creating Paper Flowers, Plants, Vegetables and other Decorative Items! by Japanese quilling artist Motoko Maggie Nakatani for Tuttle Publishing. It looks to be an incredibly thorough hardcover book that includes thirty traditional quilling projects and more than 800 color photos.
As an example, quilling newbies will learn to solve common quilling problems - so helpful.
Available now: Paper Marbling: Learn in a Weekend by Natascha Maksimovic for Skittledog Books is appealing. Who wouldn't want to develop a new hobby creating beautiful papers in such a short amount of time? "Make stationery, bunting, paper flowers, wallpaper, and lampshades, or simply place your bold designs into a frame, stand back, and admire."
Japanese Paper Craft: A Guide to Making Your Own Books, Notepads, and Keepsakes by Aya Nagaoka for Hardie Grant Books was a new release in August that looks lovely.
Described as a meditative retreat, it "begins with an overview of the tools and materials needed to make
the projects, along with simple basic techniques such as gluing corners
and spines and sewing bindings. It then progresses through 30 projects,
divided into three groups: writing, organizing and archiving. Practical
step-by-step photos and detailed diagrams make it easy to craft items
like flip books, sketchbooks, scrapbooks and more. Projects are
accompanied by tips on the best tools, techniques and materials to use,
which ensure that each one will be a success."
Botanical Block Printing by Rosanna Morris for Pavilion Books is available now. "This guide invites you to create stunning prints inspired by the natural world, all crafted by your own hands." Information is included regarding setting up, equipment, and materials as well as techniques and step-by-step projects.
So far, it's available to U.S. customers mainly in e-book format, but you can order the hardcover version that includes special features like an exposed-spine binding and a ruler on the inside flap that doubles as a bookmark via this Amazon / WorldShopUSA link.
Hardcover book, Japanese Paper Yarn: Using Washi and Kami-ito to Knit, Crochet, Weave, and More, by textile artist Andra F. Stanton for Schiffer Books won't be out until November, but it looks to be a beauty. Twelve projects range from pulped paper weaving to a knitted scarf. Many inspiring photos of works created by dozens of contemporary artists are also included. It can be pre-ordered now.
Mousetown: 30+ Kids Crafts Made from Recycled and Everyday Materials was just released last month and looks to be adorable! This paperback is from the talented Martha Stewart Living alumnae duo Jodi Levine and Margaret McCartney for publisher Union Square Kids. While it is a craft book with lots of paper elements, it also tells the story of Mouse and his adventures in Mousetown. Reviewers are raving about it.
