12 Tempting Papercraft Kits
Every now and again I enjoy a good prowl around Etsy to check out papercrafting kits. Perhaps scrolling through theses beauties will feel enticing to you.... I know I'm inspired to take up a new-to-me papercraft, but which one?!
Once upon a time I did lino cutting in school and recall liking the process. Pretty kits that artist Catherine Carmyllie of CreativeCleverHands in Liverpool, England creates have me itching to give it another go. This one for springtime lino printing is attractive with its folk bunny, Easter egg, and daffodil designs that can be turned into delightful greeting cards.
Her optional gift wrap is proof that a kit would be a beautiful present too. Everything needed to cut and print designs is included - tools, materials, templates (or create your own designs), Lokta paper, and links to how-to videos. This botanical lino kit with leafy designs is equally appealing.
I remember making (so called) silk flowers when they were a 70s trend... my local craft store sold all of the supplies individually. In recent years paper flowers have truly come into their own. This deluxe paper flower kit from Shannon Torgerson of WindblownIdeas in Bentonville, Arkansas is great as everything is right at your fingertips.
You'll learn to make SVG file peonies, roses, and daisies. Reviews call the kit high quality and so easy, and one reviewer even proclaimed she would give it ten stars if she could... that's pretty high praise! Fabriano Tiziano and Canson Mi-Teintes papers are included.
There's no need to hide your love of the Zentangles craze within the pages of a coloring book...
Here's a way to spend a relaxing few hours... make a pastel paper flower and tassel garland. Designed by Micheala Childs in London of MayContainGlitterUK, it's a breath of spring.
Southern hemisphere friends...her autumnal garland with metallic paper leaves and copper glitter is also beautiful.
Silvina De Vita of MyPapercutForest in Brighton, England is having such nice success with her 3D paper sculpture kits that include a Perspex dome and MDF (plywood) base for displaying your finished masterpiece. There are several styles in addition to the paper plants (below), along with papercutting, cyanotype, and block printing kits.
With the weather just beginning to warm up here in the northeast, it might seem early to think about solar printing, but Google tells me you don't need summer sun to find success. Carla of ElementalLeaf in Healesville, Australia offers this handsome solar printing kit. "Develop in sunshine, fix in water."
Note that your package may take a few weeks to arrive, but the time is offset by the very nice fact that worldwide shipping is free.
Anne of CraftFantasticDesign in Albuquerque, New Mexico sells popular earring kits. These could be little gifts or host a craft night for a half dozen friends. There are a number of pretty designs/papers on offer. In addition to the washi patterns in the photo, you'll find botanical, porcelain, fruit, bird, and butterfly collections. Earring trays are available with a silver, gold, or brass finish.
Some time ago my book agent recommended the bookbinding kit that Emily of CleverHands in San Francisco offers and I can see why. Choose from an array of bookcloth colors and patterned end papers. This complete kit receives rave reviews... for example, I was so, so happy with the end product, I can't believe I actually made this!!
Lastly, Johan Scherft of PaperPerch in Leiden, The Netherlands creates lifelike paper birds that you print, cut out, shape, and glue. While not a kit, I have a thing for hummingbirds so just have to share this link. The minimal purchase includes templates in two sizes... one lifelike (more difficult since hummers are tiny) and a larger one, as well as a how-to video.
Nice post thank you Darnell
