There's nothing like a handy kit when you're ready to tackle a new paper craft or share a hobby you already love with someone you think might enjoy it too. Popular paper artist Zahra Ammar and her business partner Tasneem of My Creative Camp have created a Beginner's Quilling Kit that's ideal for children as young as age 8, yet a fun way for adults to learn to quill as well.
As I told Zahra when she first contacted me about the kit, it fills an empty niche... the projects are an appealing way to interest girls and boys in quilling now that the Klutz Twirled Paper
book/kit is no longer being produced.
Supply-wise, the kit features 500+ acid-free, 1/4" quilling strips, glue, slotted tool, needle
tool, tweezers and circle board along with card stock pieces, paper frames, and blank cards. There are also six tubes of glitter and a clear storage box. Reference materials include a colorful instructions booklet, laminated shape chart, and a quick start
guide.
A bit of backstory to the creation of the kit...
Friends Zahra and Tasneem met at a paint night a few years ago and decided to
take the quilling world by storm. Zahra is a self-taught quilling,
kirigami, and modular origami artist. She has over 25K followers on
Instagram where she shares her creations with the world. (
Her art was featured here.)
Tasneem
is an e-commerce entrepreneur. When she and Zahra met, it
was the first time she had heard of quilling. It piqued her interest and
she knew instantly that more people needed to know about it.
Zahra had always dreamed of getting more people involved in quilling,
but was limited in her knowledge of how best to do this. They decided to team up to
create something beautiful, yet accessible. They have been working on
this kit for nearly a year, testing, sampling, and perfecting it.
It
can be overwhelming for a new quiller to choose from the gazillion tools, strips, and extras that are available... are they necessary or not? This well-stocked kit makes shopping easy. My Creative Camp also has a
YouTube channel with videos that show how to make the ten projects.
Zahra designed each
project and organized them from easy to more difficult. Only basic quilling shapes are used. The instructions booklet is supported
by YouTube videos that give crafters the confidence to create, display, and share
their art pieces using the card stock, greeting cards, paper
frames and glitter.
"The projects
were tested on both kids and adults who had never tried quilling. We
even had couples test and enjoy them as a home-date night. Tasneem's young boys tested everything and are now smitten with quilling." These positive responses gave the
founders the confidence to go to market.
"We are psyched that the kit is currently #1 on Amazon’s New Releases and trending in the top ten Quilling Kits. We are now working toward launching our next product this year and will continue churning out exciting ideas for creatives."
