The Etsy Design Awards Are Back!

It's time for the 2nd annual Etsy Design Awards... and this year there is added excitement. Now through October 7, you can nominate an item from your favorite shop to be entered in the People's Choice Awards. More information here. I've rounded up a number of paper-centric designs from the Paper & Party and Weddings categories to give you a taste of the variety of the 100 Etsy-nominated Finalists that are already on display.

hands holding finely cut white paper lungs

Anatomical paper lungs are laser cut in remarkably minute detail by Ali Harrison of Light + Paper in Toronto, Canada. Even though her business has expanded since 2014 when it was first featured here on All Things Paper, Ali still creates all of the many items offered as hand-cut paper cuttings.

painted portrait of dog's face and chest

I'm in awe of custom portrait painters such as Kartik of Coconuttowers in Kenilworth, United Kingdom. Just look at the expression on this sweet pup's face! There are also a number of baby animal watercolor paintings in the shop that would be perfect in a nursery.

paper cut poppies surround printed wedding vows

HereafterLA's  story began with lasting wooden cards and has expanded over the past seven years to include a number of laser cut keepsake items. Owner Yvonne Leung creates art that reminds a couple of their special day. A thoughtful wedding or first anniversary gift, Poppies is a vow-inspired art piece that arrives ready for framing. Choose from several wording options or customize it with the couple's own vows.

3D folded paper humpback whale pendant light

A cool conversation starter/paper humpback whale pendant lamp from OWLpaperlamps  in Lisbon, Portugal arrives in kit format in your choice of colors. It includes the pre-cut model, an extra one for practice (brilliant), and an instruction booklet. The shop owners are architects Teresa Almeida and Hugo Formiga who were previously featured on this blog: new trends in handmade paper lighting

torn paper landscape wedding invitation

This popular landscape wedding invitation is inspired by nature. Designed and crafted by Mirim Seo of Paper & Toys  in Las Vegas, Nevada, a graphic designer and illustrator who works in a  sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner, it has a lovely minimal aesthetic.

color illustrated personalized wedding guest place card

Josie Kyriacou of KyriDesign in Hatfield Heath, United Kingdom came up with the clever idea of illustrating personalized wedding guest place cards. Hand sketched digitally from photographs and colored with a watercolor effect, just think of the lively conversations they would generate among guests who perhaps haven't met until that moment. Afterwards, they can take them home as a reminder of the occasion.

multi-layer paper cut bird house

Charles-Ettiene Brochu of Québec, Canada and owner of shop CharlesEtienneB designs limited edition framed paper cuttings, such as this neat bird house paper cutting. He uses a drawing tablet to create the layout digitally, grouping elements on seven to ten layers that are then cut sheet by sheet using an automatic paper cutter.

champagne bottle mini pinata

Lula Flora  in Montreal, Canada is owned by Christine who created her first mini piñata party favor when planning her own wedding eight years ago. Since then she's gone on to design dozens of minis that can be filled with treats via a trap door at the bottom. Cute champagne bottle piñatas  are popular with brides-to-be to use as bridesmaid proposals.  The glittery labels can be personalized with a name or short message.
