Well, hello Autumn... perfect timing to welcome an array of tempting new paper craft books!
Makers, a head start... whether you choose the paperback or e-book version of
Making Christmas Bright with Papercrafts: More Than 40 Festive Projects!
by Alice Hörnecke, Dominik Meißner, and Sabine Seyffert for Dover Publications, you can begin crafting holiday decor, ornaments, and gifts right away.
Check out the Look Inside feature where you'll see the extensive project
list that includes Advent calendars, paper cut snowflakes, bows, boxes,
tags, wrapping paper and more.
Art Makers: Papier-Mache: A step-by-step guide to creating more than a dozen adorable projects! from Walter Foster Publishing will be released on March 2, 2021, but it can be pre-ordered now. Allow me to judge a book by its cover... so quirky and cute. Projects by Sarah Hand (she has a papier-mache Etsy shop, by the way) include home decor,
jewelry, figures
and dolls. Creating with papier-mache is fun for all ages and skill
levels, plus it's quite an affordable hobby.
Toilet
Tissue Paper Origami: Elegant Folds & Easy Surface Foldings or
Simple Origami for Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, Cruise Sips &
Imaginative Housekeepers, a self-published paperback/e-book, looks
like lots of fun. While the title suggests it is geared to those in the
hospitality industry, there's no
reason why all of us can't enjoy gussying up our bathrooms. I'm impressed by the introduction written by
the author, Victor Cassethy, as well as the clarity of the photos and
simple folding instructions for thirty designs... things like a flower
pot, swimming whale, angel and sunburst. He stresses that you
shouldn't let the term origami deter you as no prior experience is
needed... even school-age children can do them. As Victor says:
Happy folding - and may you be
flush with success!
The next three titles are slated for October and November release and can be pre-ordered now:
New Expressions in Origami Art: Masterworks from 25 Leading Paper Artists
by Meher McArthur is a well-regarded hardcover title from Tuttle
Publishing that was first available in 2017. This re-release includes a
foreword by Robert Lang and works by contemporary origami
masters who are pushing new boundaries, such as Joel Cooper, Erik
Demaine and Martin Demaine, Paul Jackson, and Beth Johnson. Enjoy
reading what inspires each artist along with their approach to
creating folded works in this gift-worthy coffee table book. It's
reasonably priced too.
Harry Potter Paper Models
by Moira Squier for Thunder Bay Press looks like something any Harry fan would enjoy. They'll be able to build twenty two Wizarding World landmarks and
buildings that have appeared in all eight Harry Potter films. Included
with materials and instructions is a keepsake booklet packed with story
background information and trading cards.
Another nifty idea to place under the Christmas tree is Superstars: Make a Galaxy of 3D Paper Stars
by Paul Jackson for Laurence King Publishing. Fifteen years ago Paul
created the Superstar unit as a quick way to construct the famous
modular origami Sonobe unit. More a kit than a book, it features pre-cut
and scored sheets in six colors to create sturdy star-building units. A
booklet explains the assembly of seventeen superstars, but the sky's
the limit in the number that can actually be designed, not to mention the
Superstar units can be used again and again, just like building
blocks... pretty cool!
