Papercutting - Geometric Designs Inspired by Nature
For all you paper cut enthusiasts out there, I'm happy to introduce this upcoming book, Papercutting - Geometric Designs Inspired by Nature. Now available for pre-order on Amazon, it will be released on September 28. Want to be the first on your block to own a copy? At the bottom of this post, you'll find the chance to enter a U.S., Canada, and U.K. giveaway, courtesy of Schiffer Publishing who will be sending out the brand new book directly to the winners.
You'll find 25 projects that look to nature and its mathematical perfection as inspiration. You'll learn about, or expand your understanding of, the Golden Angle, Fibonacci Sequence, and Golden Spiral.
Papercutting themes are grouped into three sections that build on one another in complexity:
1. Working with a Base Sheet where a single sheet of paper is cut and folded to introduce 3-D forms
2. 2-D tessellations and simple paper weaving
3. 3-D and modular forms where the elements are assembled, rather than being cut to emerge from a main sheet
A final section addresses ways to display your papercuttings, including the use of lighting.
There is information about choosing tools and materials, as well as techniques. There are instructions on utilizing the included templates, cutting fine details and curves, carving, scoring, and folding.
Projects include a butterfly composed of smaller butterflies with wings cut as flaps to create a dimensional effect; it's an ideal project for beginners. Build your skill with each successive project and find satisfaction in creating more laborious designs, such as ammonites, mistletoe balls, sea urchins, honeycomb, and fritillary shades.
And now a U.S., Canada, and U.K. giveaway! To enter to win a copy of Papercutting - Geometric Designs Inspired by Nature you must sign up for the Schiffer Books email list (a form will pop up when you click the link) and post a comment below through Saturday, August 24.
This 128-page paperback is an absolute wealth of information about the study of symmetry. It is authored by Patricia Moffett, a versatile UK artist who specializes in surface
pattern design and has produced an array of coloring books, as well as
titles on kirigami and creating 3D paper scenes.

This looks like a beautiful book! I have been working on setting up my craft room at home, and while sorting through boxes of craft supplies, my papercraft supplies far outnumber any other craft. Once my room is all set up, I will be diving back into crafting with paper, and this book looks like a wonderful source of inspiration. I'd love to win a copy! Thanks for the opportunity!
