10 Creative Paper Art Etsy Design Awards Finalists
People are so clever. As proof (as if you needed any!), let's have a look at some of the Etsy Design Awards Finalists that utilize paper. The program is the online marketplace's first-ever global awards and I was happy to see that the list included several made by talented artists who have been featured on this blog previously. For example, Griffin Carrick of Griffin Carrick Design in North Carolina is exploring new territory in quilling via macrame-style tapestries composed of rolled and fringed paper strips.
It would be a thrill to receive one of these wedding invitations that features an origami sleeve. Folded by Jay of Jay Monique Creative in London (co-owner Monique is also a designer and the duo's photographer), the shop offers stylish place cards, table numbers, and thank you cards too.
Sian Zeng in London is an illustrator and wallpaper designer. I'm imagining the fun a little dinosaur lover would have interacting with this Magnetic Dino Wallpaper. A graduate of Central St Martin’s, "Sian’s work walks the line between the imagination and the everyday, capturing what she believes should be the essence of any home." Have a look at her other lovely wallpaper designs, both magnetic and non-magnetic.
Karen of Spellbinderie in Couzon-au-Mont-d’Or, France creates customized proposal ring boxes from antique French books. Not only is there a special chamber inside into which an engagement ring can be tied in place, but the couple's story can be told via words or illustrations. Karen creates custom journals and guestbooks too.
160 finalists selected from thousands of worldwide entries are in the running for the $15,000 USD Grand Prize or the top prize in one of five categories: Inventive Decor, Signature Style, Festive
Celebrations, Earth-Friendly, and Creative Collaborations. Griffin's showstopper, Copper Hills Quilled Landscape, is listed in the Inventive Decor collection.
Abigail McMurray of Yeiou in Arlington, Massachusetts is skillful at cutting and sculpting dimensional house portraits
from sturdy white paper. She offers wonderful DIY kits, ornaments, and
framed papercut maps too... in fact, I'll be featuring more of her designs on the blog
in the near future.
Calendars are always popular gifts and I'm drawn to the fact that this pastel color block design by Anette of WiLaNo in Germany triples as a calendar, a planner, and
wall art. The soft palette is elegant, there is a writing space for
each day, and not to worry, while one side of the eco-friendly paper is printed in German, the other
is in English. Anette offers a rainbow bright version too, as well as an evergreen perpetual calendar in bright or soft colors.
Clare De Lalune of Etsy shop Au Monde Interieur in Boutigny-sur-Essonne, France hand cuts Canson paper to create wall
hangings that are true conversation starters. The Etsy finalist design
model features vegetables and hidden birds. She also offers a jungle and bird wall hanging that would be ideal in a child's nursery and a smaller one with all leaves.
Cristian Marianciuc of IcarusMidAir in Siret, Romania creates fanciful origami cranes that he decorates with hand cut, layered papers, such as the award finalist that features vivid foliage. His cranes are meant to be displayed in a glass dome or box.
A lovely little gift for Francophiles or foodies (or both!), this perpetual calendar with watercolor illustrations of seasonal produce is by Caroline Cohen Ring
in Paris. Send one as a
housewarming present or dinner thank you. Note that the
fruit and vegetables are labeled in French.

This personalized love story map by Bryony Fripp in London would be the perfect wedding
or anniversary gift. She beautifully illustrates events and
locations in the life of a couple, such as their first date, proposal,
wedding, first home, etc. Her dog portraits that feature a choice of several different breeds are mighty cute too.
Stay tuned for a second batch of Etsy Design Finalists coming up on the blog soon... yes, even more paper artists received the honor of being nominated! Winners of The Etsys will be judged and announced in September.
