Sculpted Paper Jewelry by Jason Chart-Davies

Incredible brooches and earrings composed of hand cut and folded paper caught my eye on Instagram - what an exercise in patience to assemble so many layers. No easy feat! I wrote to ask designer Jason Chart-Davies of Wales to tell us about his unique work.

"In creating these paper and silver jewellery pieces, I decided to use a type of pearl/metallic finish paper that has thirty two colour options. Its shimmering effect gives the jewellery a beautiful shine. All of the paper components are hand cut and hand constructed down to the millimetre. This is done with great care and patience with steady hands."

Several years ago design sites featured Jason's wearable sculptures and lights that he fabricated from sheet plastic.

"My current focus is creating beautiful paper jewellery. I felt it was time to develop designs in paper and give it the same attention that I had given to develop the plastic designs. I’ve also been working on a few new lighting projects that I'm hoping to finish in the near future."

His paper jewelry collection is being exhibited for the first time during Y Lle Celf exhibition through August 8 at The National Eisteddfod of Wales, Montgomeryshire and the Marches.

I'm looking forward to seeing whatever Jason makes next as he expands this jewelry collection... he's onto such a good idea considering the limitless ways of combining shapes.
