Paper-Tales Origami Brooches

Anja Stoeckigt and I met via Twitter... her username papertale caught my attention right away, as did the clever, origami-style brooches she creates. Granted, they're wood instead of paper, but I thought they just might appeal to all you paper folding aficionados.

Anja told me the inspiration for her sketches came from origami creations that others have created. Laser cut from 3mm wood, most of the brooches are left in their natural state, except for tweet-bird who "gets an extra lick of colourful paint".

Anja's interest in hand crafting with paper intensified when she and her then-fiance decided to have a DIY wedding. Because Anja received so many compliments on the decorations and favors she made, pursuing crafting as a business seemed a logical next step. Here's just one image from their reception... lots more can be found on the South African wedding site, The Pretty Blog [edit: no longer available].

It's taken about a year to build up courage and launch Paper-Tales, and Anja says more good things are on the way. In addition to origami brooches, she also makes notebooks, cards, mobiles, necklaces, and earrings.
